Over the first 12 days of January, mixed trends were observed in grain wagon transfers at Ukraine’s western border crossings.
At the Polish border, wagon transfers increased by 27.15% to 48 wagons per day compared to the same period in 2024. In contrast, all other border crossings recorded a decline in this metric. In percentage terms, the largest drop was at the Slovakian border, where the figure decreased by nearly 36.5%. On the Romanian and Hungarian routes, the respective declines were 28% and 22.7%. In absolute terms, over 12 days, the average daily transfer of wagons at the Slovakian border was 20.1 wagons/day, at the Romanian border – 3.67 wagons/day, and at the Hungarian border – 32.5 wagons/day.
The overall average daily transfer of freight wagons decreased by nearly 13.9% to 167 wagons/day.
At the Odesa ports, the average daily unloading of wagons increased by 12.1% to 1,287 wagons/day. However, the number of wagons heading toward deepwater ports dropped by 17.4% to 6,037 units.
In the port of Izmail, the accumulation of grain wagons increased by 52.85% to 565 units, while the average daily unloading rate slightly declined to 51 units/day.
Freight rates across Ukraine have changed unevenly: in regions distant from ports or border crossings, rates increased, while near key transport hubs, decreases were recorded due to reduced operational loads.
