In the first nine days of February, the volume of agricultural exports by road transport from Ukraine more than doubled compared to the same period in January, reaching 88.5 thousand tons.
The largest absolute increase was recorded at the Polish and Romanian borders, where shipment volumes amounted to 36.3 thousand tons and 23.2 thousand tons, respectively (versus 22.2 thousand tons and 8.7 thousand tons in January). On the Hungarian and Moldovan routes, exports totaled 11.2 thousand tons and 11.1 thousand tons (compared to 5.4 thousand tons and 4.5 thousand tons in January).
The lowest export volumes were observed at the Slovak border crossing, where shipments reached 6.6 thousand tons (versus 2.8 thousand tons in January).
The key export commodities during this period were sunflower oil (10.3 thousand tons) and poultry meat (7.3 thousand tons).
Freight rates for domestic and international road transport increased compared to the previous period.

RAIL

As of February 10, the situation at Ukraine’s western border crossings showed the opposite trend compared to January. Railcar transfers at the Slovak and Hungarian borders increased by 69.6% and 2.4%, reaching 39.9 railcars/day and 37.1 railcars/day, respectively. In contrast, the Romanian and Polish border crossings recorded a decline of 29.1% and 29%, with railcar handovers dropping to 6.5 railcars/day and 27.6 railcars/day, respectively.
The overall average daily railcar transfer rate increased by nearly 7%, reaching 184 railcars/day.
The number of grain railcars heading toward the ports of Greater Odesa decreased by 16.8% over the week, totaling 4,567 railcars. The average daily railcar unloading rate fell by 5.8% to 1,346 railcars/day.
At Izmail port, the accumulation of grain railcars decreased by 18.6%, reaching 215 units, while the average daily unloading rate dropped by 13.3% to 39 railcars/day.
Early February saw an increase in rail freight rates, with domestic transportation tariffs rising by $1–$5 per ton, depending on the route.

WATER

The oversupply of available vessels due to a lack of new cargoes and low freight rates continues to pressure the seaborne freight market. Throughout the week, minor fluctuations in freight rates were observed on routes from the port of Odesa and the Danube ports.

  • Izmail – Romania (1-3k mt) @8-9€
  • Izmail – Italy (5-7k mt) @26-28$

Market rates for handy:

  • Chornomorsk – Italy (30-35k mt) @14-16$
  • Chornomorsk – Spain (25-30k mt) @16-18$
